Spelling List for Non-LSP pupils

Pupils should read the whole paragraph.  They are encouraged to write the whole passage. The teacher will read the sentences sentence by sentence, phrase by phrase.  Punctuation is important too.

The marks will be based on those underlined words or phrases.

All spellings are on Fridays except for 16 Apr 2014.

Week 2-  4 Apr – The Chinese Opera Game

My grandparents like to watch the Chinese Opera. The warlords wear cloaks over their shoulders and use swords. A sword is a weapon with a long blade. Their costumes were bright and colourful.  The play is accompanied with gong, a Chinese musical instrument, which makes a very loud sound.

Week 3 – 11 Apr - Bad Dreams

Max woke up feeling frightened because he had a bad dream.  His mother let him hold a toy in bed.  He became uncomfortable when there were too many toys on the bed.  He did not like to squeeze and squirm among his toys.  He chose his favourite bear, Snuggle, to be the only one with him.

Week 4 – 16 Apr (Wed)-   Bad Dreams

James had a nightmare which woke him up in the middle of the night.  It was the fifth day.  His parents brought him to see a doctor.  Dr Lim said that James should stop eating chocolates before sleep. When James stopped the night intake, the bad dreams stopped.  James was a happy boy again.

Week 5 – 25 Apr - The Magnetic Max

Max liked his magnets very much.  He was fascinated when his bunch of keys was attracted to his magnets.  He helped his father find his iron bolts. When his sister, Jane, needed some paper clips, Max used his magnet to find them for her.  He always kept his magnet in his pocket, bringing it everywhere.

Week 6 – 2 May - The Magnetic Max

Some safety pins were pulled by a magnet. A thumbtack was pulled by the same magnet. Wasn’t that magnet powerful? It had a very strong pull. They were stuck on the magnet instantly.  Magnetic materials can be pulled by magnets

Week 7 – 9 May -  Life In A Shell

Many creatures that live in the sea have shells.  Turtles and tortoises will pull its head and legs inside its shell when they face with danger. Clam, mussels, oysters and scallops do that too.  The sea otters use rocks while men use knives to force open the shells.

Week 8 – 16 May – Food Fit For A King

Dear Mr Charlie,
Please prepare a huge pot of stews and huge bowls of custard in two weeks’ time.  I am inviting the King and the Queen to eat at your restaurant.  .  Their ten Royal children will be coming too.  You should also make enormous pots of sausages and enormous plates of jelly.  We do not want the Royal Highnesses to be hungry.

Regards,
The Prime Minister

Week 9 – 23 May - Food Fit For A King

When the chef read the letter, he shivered and quivered.  It was his first time serving such important patrons.  He immediately looked up on the Internet for the best recipes to make the food.  He wanted to find out the exact quantity needed to make the requested dishes.  He shook with excitement. He could not wait to see his guests would have eating his creations.
